“Embroidered With Pain” is an interactive exhibit featuring reproductions of traditional Ukrainian rushnyks (embroidered cloths) that honor the resilience of survivors of sexual violence committed against Ukrainians during the russian occupation. Through the intricate art of embroidery, this exhibit tells stories of survival and strength. Each thread weaves a testament to the unbreakable spirit of those who have endured and found the courage to speak up, transforming trauma into a path toward healing and hope. May these pieces bear witness to the suffering of the Ukrainian people and inspire a future free from violence.
This exhibit was made possible in the US by a generous donation from an anonymous donor and the dedicated efforts of Cactus and Tryzub, Ukrainian American Society of Tucson and volunteers. We hope it will travel across the United States, raising awareness of the war crimes committed in Ukraine.
The opening reception is free to attend and will be open to the Center for the Arts patrons and general public. However, capacity is limited so if you plan on attending, please RSVP as soon as you can to guarantee entry. We anticipate reaching capacity.
If you’re not able to attend the opening reception, the exhibit will be featured in Scottsdale through August 3rd, 2025.
